New Songs for film “Drop of Love”

Friday, June 11th, 2010

I’ve been writing the score and several songs for an independent film titled “Drop of Love.”  We’re nearing completion, and finishing up mixing a number of original songs I’ve composed with lyrics by Golam Mustofa, the director of the film.

We’ve had number of great vocalists on this project, and I’ve really enjoyed working with them!  I’ve posted two of the songs on the Shiny Nickel Music blog (www.blog.shinynickelmusic.com).

PJ Parker made the trek out to my Long Beach studio and recorded an amazing vocal for the song “It’s A Beautiful World.”  PJ is a great composer as well as vocalist– Check out her latest news here

The track “You Are The One” was recorded by Benjamin Jenkins, a vocalist in England, and he really does a wonderful job on this track!

I’m finishing up several other original songs for this film, as well as working with the Canadian composer Jonathan Rabson, who is writing several original songs for the film as well.  Stay tuned for more news on the release date for the film and soundtrack CD.

Sad news from Buffalo

Monday, February 16th, 2009

With shock, and a heavy heart, I read of news from the plane crash, flight 3407 in Buffalo last week.  On the plane were two great musicians, Coleman Mellett and Gerry Niewood.

I attended Manhattan School of Music with Coleman, and had recently seen him for the first time in many years while subbing in the pit at the Radio City Christmas Show in December.  Coleman was a beautiful person and amazing musician, and he had a unique sense of humor.  He recently sent around a photo of a “Banjo Killer on the Loose” showing him in the pit at Radio City with one very unhappy banjo.

I was lucky to have Gerry Niewood record several of my compositions in the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop.  The music scene will miss him dearly.

My deepest condolences go out to the families of Coleman & Gerry, and all the victims of the crash in Buffalo.  They will be sorely missed.

Welcome!

Music of Emme Kemp & Julie Mandel in a concert of new, commissioned arrangements by Chris Rinaman.

This will be a great lunchtime concert, so come out and join us for an afternoon of great music.  I’ve been having a blast writing the arrangements for this concert.  The music of these two amazing composers encompasses a wide variety of styles, from jazz to art songs to some avant-garde contemporary music and poetry.   Check out more online about Emme Kemp and Julie Mandel
The ensemble is made up of Carol Sudhalter who is also the hard working producer organizing all aspects of this concert) on tenor sax and flute, myself on trombone, Matt Goeke on cello, and the Italian virtuoso Antonio Cervellino on double bass.  The rhythm section is Linda Presgrave on piano, Brian Woodruff on drums, and Whitney Moulton on bass.
Emme Kemp will be performing several of her selections, along with dancer Yvonne Curry.  There is something for everyone at this concert!

March Commissions & Upcoming Concerts

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

I’m working this month on orchestrations for a concert of music by composers Julie Mandel and Emme Kemp.  This concert is being produced by Carol Sudhalter in her Astoria Jazz Band Spring season.  Find out more about Carol on her webpage here: http://www.sudhalter.com/

I’m having a great time working on this music.  It is an unusual ensemble made up of tenor sax, flute, trombone, cello, contrabass, piano, bass, drums and vocalist.  The music ranges from Julie Mandel’s interesting Copland-esque chamber pieces to Emme Kemp’s swinging jazz compositions.  It’s going to be a great concert!
